Section 11 is proud to select Justin Burth as the 2024 Transportation Professional of the Year.
Justin graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from SUNY IT in 2006 and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York and is currently working as a PE-2 in the Office of Structures for NYSDOT.
Justin served for 6 years in the US Army prior to starting at NYSDOT in Region 2 Utica. He started as a TCI in Region 2 Materials for one Summer in 2006 prior to being hired full-time as a Junior Engineer in December of 2006. He worked in the Structures Design Section in Region 2 for seven years. During that time, he was given the opportunity to work for a Summer as a construction inspector on a bridge project and another Summer in bridge inspection. In December of 2013, Justin transferred to the Main Office Structures Design Bureau. After four years in the Structures Design Bureau, he transferred to the Structures Specialties Engineering Bureau to supervise the Metals Engineering Fabrication Control Unit. For the last four and a half years, Justin has supervised the Structures Construction Support and Bridge Foundations Unit.
Justin’s NYSATE participation is exemplary having been a NYSATE member since 2008. While in Section 2, he served in the positions of Local Director and Vice President. He helped with Section 2’s 2011 Annual Conference as a member of the Hospitality and Guest Program Committees. He also helped with the annual Adopt-A-Highway program and the Boilermaker water station for several years while in Section 2. He currently serves as a Section Director in Section 11. He regularly volunteers to help with the annual NYSATE Summer picnic and has sat the NYSATE booth for the PEF picnics and Holiday Dinners as needed. During last year’s NYSATE Conference 81, Justin chaired the Technical Sessions Committee and helped assemble registration ‘swag bags’. Justin is a frequent attendee of NYSATE events so if it is happening in NYSATE, Justin is probably there.
Justin is also a frequent community contributor who makes yearly monetary donations to the Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, United Way of the Greater Capital Region, and the Humane Society of the United States. He also rescued his beloved Boston Terrier from a family who could no longer care for him, saving the pup from life in a shelter.
